Current members and alumni of UPJC teach the fundamentals and ethics in journalism to elementary and high school students, as a way of honing and contributing to the next generation of journalists in society.
Since its inception in September 1995, the CJW has been conducted all over the Philippines. Seeing the interest and eagerness of students, as well as the fulfillment of sharing knowledge and acknowledging potentials, the UPJC has decided to continue what it had begun.
Hence, the list has so far included schools in Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Mindoro, Laguna, Cavite, Baguio, Quezon, Camarines Sur, Batangas, Marinduque, Cebu and Bacolod.
More than providing interactive lectures on the basic techniques in journalism, the CJW includes critiquing school publications, conducting trainings that enhance the students’ writing, and offering specialized lectures designed to give in-depth perspectives of the various facets of journalism.
Ultimately, it seeks to give concrete recommendations based on the strengths and weaknesses of outputs for the holistic improvement of the students and the school publication.
For as long as the Filipino youth believes in the power of the pen, CJW will live on.
From the Students:
The CJW has helped a lot of Veritans, not just me. We used it when we
were competing with 15 other schools in Metro Manila, in the MaPSA Press Con.
Almost ¾ of the Veritans who joined the contest won, and we know that it’s
because of the CJW. I even won 4th place in “Pagsulat ng Balitang
Isports.” I was so shocked because I don’t write sports neither in tagalog
language. I just read the booklet you gave to us, and remembered everything you
guys said! =) You don’t know how thankful we are for the CJW! And how you’ve
helped us a lot! We will treasure this.
--Andrea Louise Yares, Veritas Parochial School.
CJW has been an amazing
experience for me, not only because of the things I learned but also because of
the friends I gained and the memories I earned. It has inspired me to keep
writing and be confident with who I am. I hope UPJC will continue to conduct
CJWs because it will surely open more doors for aspiring journalists. J

The
CJW had a colossal part in my writing life. They (The UPJC) made us see what
journalism is about that made our perceptions false. Since then, my writing has
improved and I’m hoping to be one of the names published in a newspaper or
magazine. More power, UP CJW! <3 o:p="">3>
